Tyler Perry is praised by Keshia Knight Pulliam and Lance Gross for the opportunities he offers.

Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Assisted Living continues to dominate BET with new seasons and stories that resonate with families.

Season 5 of Tyler Perry's sitcom Assisted Living returns to the Pleasant Days assisted living facility, bringing more heartfelt moments, real connections and hilarity as residents navigate challenges such as parenting, dating, and mental and physical health. Courtney Nichole, who plays Leah, delves into the fifth season of Assisted Living and how the series portrays her real-life experiences as a Chicago native who moved her family to Atlanta.

“When we moved in with Grandpa Vinnie, we brought our two children, who are teenagers, and moved them from Chicago to a small town or just outside of Atlanta, but they weren't really there,” Nichole explains BLACK COMPANY.

But despite her character's “challenges” in adjusting her children to the new way of life, the teenagers in Season 5 are growing up, “especially our son,” she says.

“Our son is coming into his manhood, all the men out there. I think they know,” Nichole says of Philip’s progression into his teenage years.

It's a “bittersweet” moment for parents to watch their children grow up and become more independent of their parents, she explains.

“I think we all love seeing that. It's kind of a bittersweet thing. You look at them and know you've done a great job and watch them grow up and overcome these life challenges that you've been through,” says Nichole.

“But now to help them deal with this: How do you stay in your business and how much do you get out of it?”

As Tyler Perry's “House of Payne” enters its eleventh season, the Payne family continues to face life's ups and downs, navigating unexpected situations with grace and laughter, and learning valuable life lessons along the way. The focus is on retired fire chief Curtis Payne and his loving wife Ella as they navigate life's challenges with their quirky, modern family.

Keshia Knight Pulliam and Lance Gross star as fan favorites Calvin and Miranda Payne, but have also taken on leadership roles behind the camera as director and writer. Knight Pulliam, who has more than 40 years of sitcom experience since starting on The Cosbys in the 1980s, shared how the show's writer, director and executive producer Tyler Perry helped both their careers by he enabled them to take on leading roles on and off the screen.

“It's not just Lance and I on camera in our tangled mess that we've been doing as Calvin and Miranda for ages,” Knight Pulliam shared. “But you know, Lance is a great writer who wrote episodes for the show in previous seasons. I direct episodes of House of Payne.”

“So when we talk about Tyler Perry and what it’s like [Perry’s leadership] Not only is it the opportunity to be in front of the camera, but we both enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the production side of the show.”
