Canada Guides on Contracted Professional Services Use

The Canadian government is committed to prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Today, the Honorable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board of Canada, released guidance on the use of contracted professional services, including management consulting.

The Manager’s Guide: Key Considerations in Professional Services Procurement helps managers decide when to contract for professional services and when to use internal resources. While the government has long had robust contract management rules, this guidance will further improve and strengthen procurement practices.

The guide also sets out practical considerations for managers when structuring contracts so that they deliver the best possible value, can be managed effectively and are fully compliant with the requirements of the Procurement Management Directive.

Consistent with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s commitment to continuous improvement, the Guide will be regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure that it is an effective tool for managers.

The guide will provide officials with an additional source of information for decision-making and ensure that expenditure on contracted professional services is managed carefully and consistently.
