You can help select a winning photo in each category at the 3rd Annual Living Lakes Canada Photo Contest
Beginning August 1, you can help select a winning photo in each category in Living Lakes Canada’s 3rd Annual Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge.
During Lakes Appreciation Month, people submitted images — the contest ends today, July 31 — that celebrate the beauty of lakes across Canada and raise awareness of what threatens their biodiversity. Hundreds of entries have been poured in from coast to coast – nearly 500 stunning photos now fill the online gallery, beating last year’s record of 245 entries.
Visit the 2023 online gallery and follow the instructions to cast your vote. Online voting runs all month until August 30th.
Public favorites will be announced in early September along with judges’ favorites, which will be selected by a panel of Living Lakes Canada team members and award sponsors. All winners will receive generous prize packages courtesy of our partners: Lush Cosmetics, Kicking Horse Coffee, Teadore Co, Earth Rangers, Laykhaus and Float-Eh.
The Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge is the sister event of National Lake Blitz, a pan-Canada citizen science program. For Lake Blitz 2023, 442 volunteers signed up to monitor 273 lakes in nine provinces and one territory. User-friendly kits and instructions on how to monitor their chosen lake were sent to participants twice a month from May to September.
To find out if a lake is being monitored near you, visit the interactive lake monitoring map and enter your hometown or nearest lake in the search bar. To learn more and get involved in 2024, visit Lakeblitz.livinglakescanada.ca or email [email protected]livinglakescanada.ca
The Lake Biodiversity Photo Challenge and National Lake Blitz are made possible with funding from the RBC Tech for Nature grant.
