Pacific Residences Tops Off in the Junction, Awaits Cladding

Pacific Residences has reached its peak in the heart of Toronto's Junction neighborhood. Eight stories tall, 2968 Dundas Street West, on the northeast corner of Pacific Avenue. The mixed-use mid-rise was designed by Core Architects for Old Stonehenge Development Corporation and Clifton Blake Group. The building replaces two low-rise, mixed-use buildings while enclosing and retaining the three-story building at 2946 Dundas West.

Demolition began in 2021, with excavations scheduled to begin by 2023. The project's massing includes setbacks along Dundas Street and Pacific Avenue to ensure compatibility with adjacent low-rise buildings. Members of the UrbanToronto Forum have been following the project.

Looking north across the Pacific Residences site in June 2023, the tower crane installed in May anchors the eastern end of the excavation. On the right, the retaining wall is being constructed around the surviving three-story structure at 2946 Dundas Street West. Further back, the corner retaining wall features a groove to stabilize the walls in the northeast corner, while tiebacks reinforce the east facade. Material provision is concentrated around the crane base, with yellow excavators positioned to the left and further back. A stepped dirt ramp on the left side facilitates vehicle access to and from the site and ascends just outside the frame on the west side.

Looking northeast over Dundas and the Pacific Ocean in October 2024, Pacific Residences has reached its full eight-story height, with decking and roof slab sheathing extending above the top level. The arrangement features two prominent volumes along the southern facade: the western volume features a setback over the third floor and a more pronounced one over the fifth, while the eastern volume features a setback over the fourth floor, with another setback over the entire facade above the seventh level.

Standing at 90 feet tall, Pacific Residences will house 120 residential units with condominium and rental options as well as premium retail. As the project nears completion, attention turns to the expected installation of cladding.
