A Toronto restaurant recently came under fire after a wave of one-star reviews protested the restaurant’s policy banning children under 10 from dining at the restaurant.
Adrak Yorkville at 138 Avenue Rd. offers fine Indian cuisine that reflects a blend of traditional and modern elements, with dishes from across the country.
Although the restaurant’s policy is clearly stated on the website, many people noted a problem with the rule and said they were unaware of the clause when making the reservation.
“When I came in with my daughter, they immediately escorted me out because children under 10 are not allowed. “It would have been nice if they had answered the phone when I called 10 times to ask about high chairs,” reads one negative review.
“Not a family restaurant. We were kicked out because we took a child with us. Apparently the Yorkville location doesn’t want your kids in the restaurant,” another person wrote.
“We booked here to celebrate a birthday but for some strange reason they didn’t let our 7 year old eat, but they were fine with our 11 year old. We asked why, they said it was because they have an open bar. Leave this decision to the parents,” reads one one-star review.
“We always ensure that we communicate the policies to guests when they make reservations across all of our booking platforms, and they are also clearly outlined on our website,” the restaurant told blogTO.
“Adrak Yorkville offers a more intimate setting for social, business and date nights, especially given the focus on exceptional cocktails from the bar. Our Richmond Hill location, however, is designed to appeal to all audiences, especially families of all ages. with a larger menu and more seating options.”
Adrak Yorkville continues to make exceptions to its policies at certain times of the year, including Mother’s Day, when there are no age restrictions on that day and families with children under 10 can be accommodated.
