TIFF just announced the first big movie coming to this year's festival in Toronto

TIFF today gave moviegoers a first look at its 2023 programming and announced that Taika Waititi’s ‘Next Goal Wins’ will have its world premiere at the festival.

Waititi, who won the 2019 TIFF Ebert Director Award for his film Jojo Rabbit, will return to Toronto in September for the 48th edition of the festival.

Next Goal Wins, starring Michael Fassbender and Toronto native Will Arnett, is based on the 2014 documentary of the same name.

The sports comedy follows the American Samoa national soccer team in the early 2000s as they attempt to climb the FIFA rankings with the help of their new coach (Fassbender).

Although TIFF has yet to release the full schedule, organizers have confirmed that the festival will be held in theaters across the city from September 7th to 17th.

The full film program will be released on the TIFF website on August 15 ahead of ticket sales, which begin on August 18.
