Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell speaks to business leaders in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Thursday about monetary policy. Powell will give a speech, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The appearance comes a week after policymakers voted again to cut their key interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point, or 25 basis points. This followed a half percentage point cut in September and left the key interest rate in a range between 4.5% and 4.75%.

However, this week's economic data showed that inflation has proven stubborn, with consumer price increases at 2.6% and wholesale prices at 2.4%. For core inflation, which excludes food and energy costs, the measures are significantly higher.

Markets expect the Fed to cut rates again in December and then likely skip the January meeting as officials assess the impact of previous easing measures.
