Businesses that have closed in Toronto will leave a huge void where they once were, but we will always remember the memories we made in those places. A spin studio, an epic candy store, and multiple restaurants are all sorely missed.
Here are notable businesses that closed in Toronto last month.
Sarah’s Cafe & Bar
After almost 30 years in business, this charming shop in the Danforth neighborhood has closed its doors, but for reasons that are not entirely unfortunate: the owners are retiring.
Ossington canteen
Unfortunately, this Ossington mini food hall was, in its own words, “barely open” before having to close all of its various concepts, which included establishments selling cakes and tacos.
Chantecler butcher shop
Parkdale said goodbye to this butcher shop associated with the French restaurant next door, which unfortunately burned down (but not without giving birth to Le Phenix).
Butcher by nature
Known for locally sourced meat and turkey, this butcher shop closed in late July after 20 years, but they’re continuing their charcuterie project.
cider house
At the end of the month this bar in Roncesvalles, which was one of the few in town dedicated to serving a wide range of ciders, closed.
Bloom restaurant
The closure of this Latin American restaurant in Bloor West Village at the end of the month was made all the more tragic by the recent death of its founder.
Torq ride
This Leslieville studio, popular for its spinning classes, announced its closure but stayed open until mid-July to allow cyclists to take one last ride.
Portuguese house
The folks behind Mercado Negro ran this Portuguese restaurant in the Castlefield Design District until July 24, but don’t worry: they’re still running the space, just changing it into something else.
Sabai Sabai
This one hurt: Yonge and Bloor just wouldn’t be the same without this legendary Thai restaurant, which closed at the end of the month.
Sweet thrills
A huge range of sweets and British products are no longer available in Roncesvalles in this shop that has always been around.
