LETTER: Canada must play role in global health

I read with interest the article about School District 63 about mental wellness and inclusivity. Bravo and all the best. Another site reports hungry kittens who need help feeding. Raccoons and other wildlife need help.

On my heart today lies the burden of global well-being. We are part of the entire world and child poverty is so widespread that it leads to disease and a lack of education for our future.

Canada can continue to help around the world. We know the critical role vaccines have played in saving lives and shaping public health in Canada. However, the threat of infectious diseases and associated tragedies remains. Canada must continue to invest in key global health mechanisms such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Polio Eradication Initiative.

Polio ran in my family. One member lives with facial paralysis and post-polio syndrome. I call on us to be vigilant and do everything we can to eradicate this terrible disease worldwide.
