New must-try pizza restaurants in Toronto put a unique twist on the much-loved Italian classic.
Of course, it's hard to go wrong with pizza, but these restaurants get it absolutely right, combining classic flavors and traditional techniques with more modern twists.
Here are some of the new pizzerias in Toronto that you should try at least once.
Zavia
A welcome addition to the Leaside area, this casual and cozy spot invites you to “reinvent pizza” (their slogan) by offering crispy baked pies with unique toppings such as bacon, rosemary potatoes and roasted peach, as well as a selection of Paninis and other pasta dishes are served.
Pala 148
This casual spot in the heart of Yorkville serves up the perfect lunchtime fuel in the form of Roman-style cakes made with flour imported directly from Italy. Bold, rectangular slices are piled high with toppings like mortadella, soppressata, and even eggplant parmesan, creating a unique expression of a takeout classic.
Pizzeria #900 Toronto
This Quebec-based chain's first Toronto location serves up “real” Neapolitan-style pizza at its charming fast-casual space in The Beaches, from classics like Margherita to more unique offerings like the “smoked meat” pie that mimics the taste an old-fashioned Montreal smoked meat sandwich.
Carolina
This Dundas West eatery serves Neapolitan-style cakes on soft, supple dough. The bites are almost as beautiful as the airy, light-filled interiors in which they are served. Here, pizzas are baked in an ultra-hot wood-fired oven and are ready in just about 90 seconds, eliminating the wait between you and your first slice.
Together
A charming and romantic place in Liberty Village. The name of this restaurant literally means “together” and it is a cozy place to gather over a hot and fresh cake made from 72-hour fermented dough and topped with ham and artichokes, 'nduja sausage and pepperoni or prosciutto and burrata.
