It is a milestone month for the stock exchange traded fund industry.

According to the independent research company ETFGI, actively managed ETFs now have more than 1 trillion US dollars of assets.

This is roughly the market capitalization of Berkshire HathawaySaudi -arabia's gross domestic product and the value of 121 New York Yankees franchise companies.

The Nate Geraci of the ETF Store believes that due to the appetite, it will be even greater for new active investment strategies.

“It is interesting for an industry in which the roots are passively managed products. The industry was built on that,” the company's president told CNBCs “ETF Edge” this week. “It is interesting to see how active ETFs attract all attention at the moment.”

Geraci notes that most streams go into “much more systemic strategies”, including a combination of passive and aggressive.

“If you look at the growth of the number of actively managed ETFs, these are not what you absolutely consider as a traditional activity,” he added. “They are products such as option-based income ETFs [and] Buffer -Tfs. “

According to Kirsten Chang from Vettafi, actively managed ETFs now include almost a tenth of the ETF industry.
