Statistics Canada has released its list of the most popular baby names in Canada and Olivia was once again the most popular girl name.
Olivia has been sitting at number 1 for seven years and has been fighting with Emma for the top spot since 2003.
According to the database, Olivia was used 1,804 times in 2022, while Emma, the runner-up, was used 1,550 times.
These are the names in places three to ten: Charlotte, Amelia, Sophia, Chloe, Mia, Ava, Lily and Mila.
Sophia improved to fifth place compared to her sixth place in 2021. Ava, who finished fifth in 2021, fell to eighth.
The biggest jump came from Wren, which ranked 83rd, up from its previous spot of 114th, breaking into the top 100 for the first time since records began.
When it comes to the most popular boy names, Noah was at the top for the second time in a row in 2022. According to the data, it has been in the top 10 for the past 18 years.
Noah made 2,198 appearances while Liam, who came second overall, made 1,902 appearances.
The names ranked third to tenth among boys are William, Leo, Theodore, Oliver, Benjamin, Thomas, Lucas and Jack.
Benjamin fell slightly from fifth to seventh, while Oliver jumped four places from tenth to sixth.
The biggest jump in boys’ names was Leon, which went from its previous position of 118 to 86th, breaking into the top 100 for the first time along with Luka, Leon, Jules, Milo and Weston.
According to StatCan, the diversity of baby names has increased 31 percent over the past 30 years, from nearly 34,000 names in 1992 to over 43,000 in 2022.
Unique names, defined as fewer than five children with the same name, accounted for 86 percent of baby names in 2022.
