SYDNEY, NS –
Bell Media will shortly close its CTV office in Cape Breton.
The Sydney office at 1283 George Street will be one of two offices in Atlantic Canada that will be closed in the near future. The other office closure is in Moncton.
CTV Atlantic will continue to have journalists in Cape Breton. Reporters have been working from home since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, according to a source.
Despite the closure of the office, the transmitter remains in operation. No date has been confirmed for the closure and the fate of the building itself is unknown.
The Cape Breton Post has learned that the closure of the office has laid off two employees, including a secretary and a salesman.
The building was home to two longstanding programs, including the weekly shut-in fair and the local Christmas Daddies edition.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the mass for shut-ins has been produced in a local church. However, the fate of the Christmas Daddies in Sydney was unknown at the time of going to press.
