It looks like a rapper Cam’ron encountered a small problem on the way to building his entrepreneurial empire.
According to XXL, the Harlem native was sued by a photographer for copyright infringement. earlier this week, Djamilla Rosa Cochranthe photographer who took pictures of the Horse and Carriage rapper in his infamous pink fur outfit, which many fans remember him for, has filed a lawsuit against him for using the image without their consent.
XXL obtained legal documents proving that the photographer owns the copyright to the image that Cam has been using for years. The papers were filed on Tuesday, April 11th. Cochran is suing the rapper and his company Dipset Couture LLC for copyright infringement.
“Defendant Dipset Couture LLC, without Plaintiff’s permission or authorization, actively copied the Photograph and displayed it on the Website as part of various product listings (“Merchandise Listings”) and knowingly engaged in this misconduct in violation of United States copyright laws. ‘ the lawsuit says. “Getty Images has informed the defendants of their infringing activities on numerous occasions by post and email. Despite these notifications, the defendants continued to sell goods and continued to display the photo on the website and in their accounts.”
Cochran is requesting that a jury hear her case as she seeks damages, including any profits made by the dipset leader from the merchandise bearing the photograph.
Over the past 20 years since the photograph was taken in 2003, Cam’ron has benefited from the image seen on merchandise including shower curtains, socks, beach towels, jewelry, hoodies, bikinis and more. These articles can be seen on his Instagram page.
The image referenced in the lawsuit was taken at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February 2003. He’s wearing the infamous pink fur coat and holding his clamshell phone. This image is probably one of the recording artist’s most recognizable.
