The Canadian space agency has awarded MDA a $ 22.8 million contract to develop Canadarm3.

The agency says Canadarm3 is Canada’s contribution to the US-led Lunar Gateway, a small space station that will orbit the moon.

The contract includes the award of phase A of the Canadarm3 program with options for subsequent phases.

According to MDA, the project will be a third generation robot system based on artificial intelligence.

In the initial phase, the technical requirements necessary for the design and manufacture of the robot system are determined.

The Canadarm debuted in 1981 and has flown on 90 space shuttle missions, while Canadarm2 has operated on the International Space Station for almost 20 years.
