On Saturday, Elon Musk shared on
Musk wrote that Howard Lutnick, co-chairman and CEO of the Trump-Vance transition and chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, chairman of BGC Group and Newmark Group, will “actually bring about change.”
Lutnick and Key Square Group founder and CEO Scott Bessent are reportedly the top candidates to lead the finance department.
Musk, CEO or Tesla and SpaceX, also included his thoughts on Bessent in his post on X.
“In my opinion, Bessent is a business-as-usual election,” he wrote.
“Continuing business as usual is bankrupting America, so we have to change one way or another,” he added.
Musk also said it would be “interesting to hear more people comment on this so that @realDonaldTrump takes the feedback into account.”

In a statement to Politico, Trump's transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt made it clear that the president-elect has not made any decisions about the Treasury secretary position.
“President-elect Trump is making decisions about who will serve in his second administration,” Leavitt said in a statement. “These decisions will be announced as soon as they are made.”
Both Lutnick and Bessent have close ties to Trump. Lutnick and Trump have known each other for decades and the CEO even hosted a fundraiser for the president-elect.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Lutnick has already helped Trump vet candidates for Cabinet positions in his administration.
On the other hand, Bessent was a key economic advisor to the president-elect during his 2024 campaign. According to Semafor, Bessent also received an endorsement from Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
“He’s from South Carolina, I know him well, he’s highly skilled,” Graham said.
