Fire breaks out after explosion in Toronto subway station

Toronto’s busiest subway station was closed Tuesday morning over reports of an explosion and subsequent fire in a tunnel next to the platform.

Just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, the TTC tweeted that service between St Clair and College had been suspended over reports of a fire and shuttle buses had been deployed between St Clair and Bloor stations.

Line 1 Yonge-University: No service between St. Clair and College while we respond to a fire report.
Shuttle buses have been ordered and will operate between St Clair and Bloor stations.

CityNews has shared an exclusive video, taken from the station’s Line 1 platform, showing what allegedly started as an electrical fire raging just behind the platform.

The whole time you see commuters standing at the edge of the platform, phones in hand to record the chaos.

CityNews captured video of a fire on the tracks of TTC line 1 at Bloor/Young station around 10:00 am.
According to CTV, it was small and was extinguished by the Toronto fire.

Rescue workers responded to the scene and the fire has reportedly been extinguished, but there has been no update from the TTC on the resumption of service on the busiest stretch of Metro Line 1.
