Social media celebrate after Chicago prosecutors decided to drop murder charges against Carlisha Hood and her 14-year-old son.
The first-degree murder charge was dropped along with other charges on Monday, June 26, reports WGN-TV. Prosecutors cited “facts, evidence and the law” as the reason for dropping charges brought after the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Jeremy Brown on June 18.
A shocking video showed Hood and Brown’s heated encounter at a restaurant. Authorities say Hood texted her teenage son, signaling him with a registered firearm to come to her aid.
When Brown was physically assaulted and hit Hood repeatedly after threatening to “turn her off,” Hood’s son shot the man and he sustained a gunshot wound in the back.

Brown fled the restaurant, where the 14-year-old followed him and fired more shots. He suffered two gunshot wounds to the back and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Hood and her son turned themselves in to police last week, and many debated whether or not the charges were merited, given the surfaced video showing Brown physically assaulting Hood. But when their charges were dropped, the moment of their reunion was captured on video.

Hood has since filed a lawsuit against the city of Chicago and five police officers over allegations of false arrest and malicious prosecution, which caused emotional distress, reports ABC 7 Chicago.
“On June 18 of this year, my life changed, my son’s,” Hood said in a news conference. “Never in a million years could I have imagined being brutally assaulted, beaten and then arrested.”
Many applauded the mother and son, even hailing the teen as “heroes” after seeing the video of the Brown Hood thrashing while others watched.
“Such a relief! Happy for her family,” one woman wrote.
“Good! Glad to see that. “My boy only protected his mothers!!!!” added another.
Others sent their own messages of support for Hood and her son.
“#Carlishahood I’m glad she’s reunited with her son and family. God is good,” one person wrote, along with a clip from Hood’s press conference.

Many others are calling the other men who were in the restaurant and saw Brown Hood punching but did nothing.
“All those adult ass men in the restaurant who allowed this guy to hit Carlisha are waste men!” wrote one woman.

“If you were a man and you stood in line at the restaurant and watched this man hit this woman multiple times and did nothing. You’re a piece of shit,” quipped another user.
I’m not going to spank all men, but what I want to say is if you were a man and you stood in line at a restaurant and watched this man hit this woman multiple times and did nothing. You are a piece of shit.#Carlishahood #Chicago pic.twitter.com/hEtBZrfoeE
