Republican Senator Tim Scott is calling for the end of old registrations.
The hill Scott reportedly told Fox News that education should be the goal of the entire community. He said, “I think the question is, how do you continue to create a culture where education is the goal for every single part of our community?” He suggested that getting rid of legacy licensing was the solution to that goal to reach. “One of the things Harvard could do to make this even better is to eliminate all the old programs that give preference to old children and not allow the professors – their children – to come to Harvard as well. “
Scott’s comments followed the Supreme Court’s June 29, 2023 decision barring affirmative action. NBC News reported on the court’s majority opinion on the Harvard and University of North Carolina programs. The Court found that the programs “lack sufficiently focused and measurable goals to justify the use of race, inevitably use race in negative ways, involve racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful endpoints; these admissions programs cannot be reconciled with the guarantees of the equal treatment clause.” .”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) said legacy footage was the equivalent of “positive action for the privileged.” Twitter.
Black company reported Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s appeal on the decision. “If this country’s colleges are asked to ignore something important, it’s not just going to go away. It will take longer for racism to go away from us,” she said. The Hill reported that Vice President Kamala Harris Jackson agreed and went on to say Twitter“Today’s Supreme Court decision is a denial of an opportunity.” It’s not about being color blind. It’s about being blind to history, blind to empirical evidence about inequalities, and blind to the strength that diversity brings to classrooms.” CNN Former President Barack Obama reportedly said that affirmative action helped him and his wife, Michelle Obama. He said affirmative action “has enabled generations of students like Michelle.” [Obama] and me to prove we belong.”
Scott’s call to end the recording of legacy recordings also follows a public disagreement between himself and Obama. Black company reported the two had different opinions about the breed in America.
