A dill pickle candy bar is now being made and sold in Ontario, and no, it’s not an early April Fool’s joke (well, not exactly).
Alicja Confections has a storefront in Ottawa and is known for its mailable “postcard” candy bars.
They just developed a new flavor that includes dill pickle and people are flagging up online saying they want to try it.
“Yes, we made this bar seriously,” Alicja Confections wrote in the caption of an Instagram post about the chocolate. “Yes, it’s really good. We ourselves were shocked at how good it is. If you like dill pickle, you must have this.”
“Cucumber chocolate? I’d try it,” one person commented on the post. “Did you eat it on pizza? So good!”
“Interesting how this tastes,” commented another.
“Please make this vegan next year! I’d love to try it,” commented another person.
Some people even commented that while they wouldn’t try it themselves, they actually want other people they know to try it.
“Disgusting but amazing because cucumbers are my BFFs favorite so I’ll surprise them,” one person wrote.
“I’ll buy you this and send you one just to try,” one commented, tagging their friend.
The chocolate company responded to the comment, saying, “I swear every time I watch someone eat it they look so scared and then so surprised because it’s GUD.”
“I look forward to her reaction when she receives the bar,” the person replied.
The product is already taking off, and the chocolate company responded to a comment on its Instagram post by saying, “The way things are going, we could be dating.”
While this bizarre candy bar isn’t an April Fool’s joke, the inspiration for it came from.
“Last year, at April Fools’ Day, we posted about what was then a fake new postcard candy bar flavor, Dill Pickle,” Alicja Buchowicz, founder of Alicja Confections, tells blogTO.
“We’ve been known to have pretty weird candy bar flavors like wasabi, corn, donuts… we put actual pieces of donuts in these, but dill pickle was weird on the next level.” When people found out the bar was a joke, a lot of people were disappointed, so we immediately started planning and testing to make this bar a reality.”
Launched on March 24, the bar combines the flavors of dill pickle with white chocolate for what Buchowicz says is shockingly delicious.
“It’s a very surprising taste because you might think pickles and dill wouldn’t go well with white chocolate, but because our white chocolate isn’t crazy sweet like most, they complement each other really well and the cucumber flavor shines through,” says Buchowicz.
“People’s reactions are always funny because it’s surprising how good it is. It really does taste like dill pickle chips.”
The Dill Pickle Candy Bar is available online for $9.99 and can be mailed in Canada for $1.94 as a postcard via their website. As with all postcard candy bars, you can even add a message to print on the postcard.
You can also pick up the limited edition bar at the Alicja Confections booth at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto.
