The representative elected by the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL). Laura Hall to serve as the 15th national president.
The election was held during the 46th NBCSL Annual Legislative Conference on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to a press release.
“As I prepare to take the helm as President of NBCSL, I will continue to advance this organization and ensure we remain focused on the communities we represent,” said NBCSL’s newly elected President, Rep. Hall , “Ensure our voice as black legislators are heard and we are indeed the ‘voices of the states’.”
NBCSL holds elections every two years to choose new leadership. Along with the election of the new President, other officers of the Executive Committee –Rep. Harold Love (TN), President-Elect, Sen. Raumesh Akbari (TN), Vice President, Representative Vivian Flowers (AR), secretary, Representative Toni Rose (TX), Treasury Secretary and Senator Gerald Neal (KY), Parliamentarian.
“I am very proud to pass the torch of leadership on to my dear friend and colleague, Rep. Laura Hall,” said the current NBCSL president Billy Mitchell, “I know that under her leadership she will take this organization to even greater heights. I would also like to congratulate the members of the newly elected Executive Committee. I look forward to the work each of you will do.”
Representative Hall will officially assume the role as NBCSL President in January 2023. Under her leadership, she plans to continue her work to protect voter rights and women’s rights, and to increase engagement with NBCSL members and corporate partners.
