Several BC junior golfers are now one step closer to one day playing in the LPGA or PGA after being named to the Team Canada – NextGen 2023 roster.
Luna Lu, 15, may only be in 10th grade, but she can play golf like a pro, which she has repeatedly demonstrated as a member of Pitt Meadows Golf Club.

Another Pitt Meadows player to make the girls’ NextGen team is Yeji Kwon, 16, who plays at Swaneset Bay Resort and Country Club.

Forming the NextGen team is a critical step in helping these young players advance their future golf careers, said Dan Pino, Senior Director of Communications at Golf Canada.
“Team Canada is a new tier called Team Canada – NextGen (formerly Junior Squad) focused on supporting top juniors and bridging the gap for players transitioning to amateur golf and the US college system switch,” said Pino.

The boys’ and girls’ NextGen teams are made up of 22 junior and under-21 amateur golfers, all striving to compete at a high level in amateur golf.
If all goes well for Lu and Kwon, they could be one of the 30 new players Golf Canada plans to add to the LPGA and PGA tours by 2032.
Several other BC players also made the NextGen roster, including:
• Alex Zhang (14) – Marine Drive Golf Club, Vancouver
• Cooper Humphreys (17) – The Harvest Golf Club, Kelowna
• Gavyn Knight (18) – Morningstar Golf Club, Parksville
• Martina Yu (16) – Coquitlam, BC
• Vanessa Zhang (16) – Marine Drive Golf Club, Vancouver
