Farm Credit Canada (FCC) has categorically denied claims that the company plans to move its headquarters in Regina to Quebec.
“To be clear: FCC is not moving its headquarters from Regina,” the FCC said in a statement. “Although FCC is a national organization with a national mandate, we value being part of Regina and share a passion for this community.”
According to the company, more than 1,000 FCC employees call Regina home.
The claim was made by Saskatchewan United Party leader Nadine Wilson during question period on Thursday.
“I have learned that Farm Credit Canada plans to close its headquarters in Regina and relocate to Quebec. Can the Prime Minister confirm or deny this move? ” She asked.
In her comments to the meeting, Wilson called the FCC's alleged move from Regina to Montreal a “rumor.”
Deputy Prime Minister Donna Harpauer responded to the question, saying the government was not aware of the information and therefore could not comment.
“Again, we do not answer questions about rumors someone may have heard somewhere. “We haven’t heard anything about it,” said Harpauer. “Concerns would be raised if it was more than just a rumor.”
In its statement, the FCC emphasized the “important work” that lies ahead for the organization as it continues to serve its customers in the agriculture and food industries.
“That remains our focus.”
