Another prominent member of the Ride for Dad Swift Current chapter was honored with a piece of hardware.
During the 2023 Ride for Dad Canada Summit in St. John’s, Newfoundland, last month, Brent Watson was one of seven people from across the country honored with an Outstanding Achievement Award.
Watson has been involved with the local event and nonprofit since its founding in 2013 and is an executive member of the committee.
“It’s great to be recognized for this, but I would accept this on behalf of all of our leadership members who help make the ride a success each year,” he said.
Watson has been helping to organize cycle rides across the South West that raise vital funds for the treatment of prostate cancer for over a decade and is delighted to be playing his part in making a positive difference in the fight against cancer.
“I think prostate cancer has touched each of us at some point in our lives,” he said, one of his reasons for joining. “We love riding motorbikes so we thought we should use the venue to raise money for the fight against prostate cancer.”
The 2024 Swift Current ride is scheduled for June 8 and the local team said the hike will be the same, but they hope participation continues to increase since the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to our local sponsors, without whom we would not be able to run this ride, and to the volunteers who help every year,” he said.
