Toronto bar with epic rooftop patio 'closed for the season' but there's no sign it'll ever reopen

A Toronto bar that was one of the city's most popular due to its rooftop terrace temporarily closed last fall, but there is no indication when it will reopen – if ever.

Shenanigans, a self-described “neighborhood bar with a patio” that originally opened in 2021, has some truly prime real estate, especially in the summer.

Located in St. Clair, just west of Yonge, O&B's pub concept is a two-story commercial space and is best known for its year-round rooftop deck.

In years past, the pub's patio has been open year-round, covered and heated for the colder months, and despite snow, rain, and everything else that Toronto's fall and winter bring, there were customers there (albeit in smaller numbers).

In September 2023, however, the Shenanigans went “into hibernation,” a nod to their raccoon mascot and a cute way of saying they are closing for the season.

In an Instagram post about the closure, the restaurant's caption reads: “The time has come and our hibernation has begun,” without providing any further explanation.

But now that spring is over and summer has arrived, many are wondering how long this so-called hibernation will last.

“My coworkers and I love your patio. Patio season has long since started. Will you open this season?” one person recently commented on the post, which is the most recent on the restaurant's account.

“Nothing? Are you even going to open this spring?” writes another.

At the time of publication, O&B did not respond to blogTO's request for comment, so Toronto will just have to wait and see what becomes of one of the city's most popular patios.

Once a popular spot for summer drinks and socializing, Shenanigans is now one of the city's most enchanting mysteries. Maybe it will awaken like a butterfly from its slumber, bigger and more beautiful than before. Or maybe it's just gone forever.
