Bikes traces have proven to be extremely divorcing in Ontario, especially in Toronto, where Premier Doug Ford remain in mixed use in mixing users until the removal of selected cycle traces and reverse for several years and millions of dollars of construction work, which were led by the city.

Since different groups continue to express strong support for or opposite against Ford's plans, a group of 40 companies increases its contradiction with the type of infrastructure to a new level and starts a lawsuit against the city on its constantly growing cycling network.

A few days after the legal steps have been published, there are already some counter -reactions from members of the community.

In a declaration of claim submitted to the Supreme Court on February 21, it is claimed that the city and its transport manager “manipulated the public consultation process to minimize the opposition and to exaggerate the support for new cycle paths along Bloor Street West, and fulfilled its public duties for local companies.

It is said that in recent years there were “outstanding problems with the traffic jams” as a direct result of the expansion of the routes along the thoroughfare and how other facilities in the city repeated, they were generally poor for business.

While the associations of drivers and residents have long complained about new bicycle infrastructure in their communities, only a few companies have taken the same public status.

The Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area (BIA) and Greecttown in the Danforth Bia sent both letters to the mayor, which challenged parts of the expansion of the cycling network, and only a few companies have spoken to their resentments over the years and thus received a lot of hatred.

One was a pub in which a “F*ck Bike Lanes” t -shirt was created last year, and another, a bakery that defeated Bloor on Instagram after the latest complete street project.

The latter owner is part of this new lawsuit, together with a number of others who are now named and ashamed by residents who say that they are “disappointed” in the move.

One of the multiple social media contributions that name and shape the companies associated with the case that claims that the city did not consult business owners before expanding the cycle paths along the Bloor Street West.

“I will make my purchases in the Kingsway accordingly,” wrote a local this week in a Facebook group of the South Etobicoke community and shared the list of companies that bring the city to the task. Some of the remarkable companies are:

  • North Brentwood Massage Therapy Clinic
  • Romis pizza
  • Orrett music
  • Team Touch Haardesign
  • Just chic
  • Greek tavern
  • Sushi2go on bloor
  • The inventory exchange

Since then, the contribution has accumulated hundreds of reactions from both sides of the argument, with comments from “This is an excellent boycott list” to “I will absolutely support these heroes”.

While the tensions continue to escalate between the two camps, the city is urging Ford on which the bike paths along the Yonge Street, University Avenue and yes, parts of the Bloor Street will remove this spring.
