Trendy sandwich shop is permanently closing Toronto location

A Toronto sandwich shop that got a lot of buzz for its large Sandos and Aesthetics store just announced it will soon be closing for good.

With the official opening of their Little Italy store in December 2023, La Bella Sangweech's owners, Jess Anelli and Angie Russo, were the leaders of a boom of new sandwich shops in the city at the time.

Along with contemporaries like Leslie's Sandwich Room and Sleepy Pete's, La Bella Sangweech was just one of many sandwich shops shaking up the landscape with quality ingredients, straightforward menus, and groovy vibes, and it seemed like it was here to stay.

They served a small but delicious menu of 6 classic Italian sandwiches served on fresh foccacia from their neighbors at Riviera Bakery. Rumors quickly spread about the store's gigantic creations (I mean seriously, these were two-handed creations) and pleasing pink interiors, cementing its reputation as a must-see in the neighborhood.

But as they say, what goes up must come down, and unfortunately that is also the case for La Bella Sangweech, who announced on their Instagram account on October 15 that the store would soon be closing its doors.

“Grazie for a bella 10 months,” is the headline of the post, which solemnly announces the store’s impending closure.

At the time of publication, La Bella Sangweech has not responded to blogTO's request for further comment on the reasons for the closure.

The store's last day of operation is expected to be Sunday, October 20th.

La Bella Sangweech is located at 584 College Street.
