Both Hassett and Warsh Odds were impressed by the predictive markets after Trump had taken on “The Kevins” on CNBC last week, and said they were both “very good”.
The two have campaigned for lower interest rates. Powell, whose term ends in May 2026, was a common goal of Trump's criticism of refusing to reduce interest rates.
At the most recent Fed decision in July, Waller, together with the governor of the Fed Michelle Bowman, publicly resisted the central bank's decision to keep interest rates stable. Waller, who was nominated by Trump to Fed in 2020, said that his waiting-and lake approach was “excessively careful”.
Bloomberg News reported last week and quoted people who are familiar with the matter that Trump's consultants such as Waller's openness to adapt the monetary policy based on the forecast and not current data. It also reported that Waller met Trump's team about the Fed chief, but did not meet the president himself.
