SEC Commissioner Peirce comments on leveraged ETFs, tokenization and new products

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce says she is ready to work with Wall Street on new exchange-traded fund products related to cryptocurrencies and tokenization.

“We want to work with people on new products,” Peirce said this week during an exclusive interview with “ETF Edge” host Dominic Chu. “It’s really about talking to us about what you have in mind. We want to work with you to experiment and see if the market wants your products.”

Peirce joined CNBC from VettaFi’s Exchange 2026 conference in Las Vegas.

“I’m here because this is such an important part of our regulation,” she said.

When asked about the tokenization of financial instruments, Peirce said interest has increased.

“It is not the SEC’s job to decide how the market moves forward,” she said. “But tokenization is one of those areas where since the change of government and since attitudes towards crypto and blockchain have changed, people have come to us and said, ‘We really think tokenization has potential here.'”

Peirce also noted regulatory priorities as retail investor access to new ETFs improves.

“We want to do it [work with issuers] “In a way that respects investor protection,” Peirce said. “It’s not our job to say which products are good or bad.” It is our job to work with sponsors to ensure they disclose what products they are and what risks they pose [and] what they should be used for.
