If you find a cheap flight, you can sometimes feel as hard as a decent snack in an airplane.

However, travel experts are generally on advice to achieve good business with the flight price: be flexible.

“It is our No. 1 advice, always for travelers,” said James Byers, head of the product team at Google Flut.

Flexibility can mean that he will fly at the weekend at the weekend or maybe travel outside the high season for a specific goal, he and other experts said.

“Try not to go into a really specific date,” said Byers.

Even moving by traveling by a day or two in both directions can make a “big difference”, he said.

The cheapest days to fly

Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays are generally the cheapest days to fly. According to the new Google Flight data, tickets are 13% cheaper than for weekend flights.

Google examined the average back and forth trips flight prices from January 1, 2021 to August 1, 2025. The four-day to 16-day trips were analyzed by the top 4,000 markets in the USA

The departure during the week is a “simple way” to save 42 US dollars per ticket, or about 14%on average for the domestic flight price.

Sunday is often the most expensive day to fly, wrote Hayley Berg, the main economist from Hopper, in the report. It is usually a strenuous day at airports when the people fly home on weekends, she wrote.

“Travelers who think about a weekend trip can save a lot on Saturday or Monday, instead of Sunday or Monday,” wrote Berg.

Of course, holidays can throw a wrench in these guidelines.

For example, flying on Wednesday before Thanksgiving is probably the most expensive day to fly around on this special vacation, said Sally French, a travel analyst at Nerdwallet.

As an additional bonus, skipping weekend trips can also deliver large hotel discounts. If you check in on Friday or Saturday and stay until Sunday, you generally have to pay a bonus of more than 20%or about $ 50 per night more for the cheapest days of the week to check in like Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

Do not fall for this “myth”

Many travelers run the “myth” that the day of the week they buy their flight has a major financial effect, said French.

“It's not true,” she said. “It's not the day you book [that’s important]It is the day you fly. “

Historically, Tuesday was the cheapest day of the week to book, but it is only 1.3% cheaper than on Sunday, the most expensive day, according to the Google Fluts analysis.

“If I gave my friends and family advice on what I should look for, it would be a factor lower on the list,” said Byers. “I wouldn't say, 'wait until Tuesday.'”

Travel outside the high season

Flexibility on a macro level can also help reduce your flight, said French.

“Walking only in a less crowded month can be helpful,” she said.

This could mean traveling during the shoulder season or the offseason of a target, experts said.

The flight summit generally climax and drops in midsummer when the early autumn approaches, Berg wrote. For example, domestic travelers save an average of 40%or about 150 US dollars in 2024 by changing from the main months to September or October, referring to Hopper data.

Of course, it can be difficult for certain travelers to be flexible.

The parents can be tied to summer trips due to school vacation plans, while workers can be restricted in certain roles, for example, teachers or tax progress if they can take a break.

In addition, tours or cruises are generally equipped with strong start and end data, and it may not be financially useful to tackle on additional days – and additional hotel and food costs – at the beginning or at the end of a trip, said French.

However, there are other ways to save, experts said.

Layovers are potentially stressful, but are often a safe way to save money. By booking a travel route with a layover, travelers save an average of around 22%, as part of non -stop to Google Flights.

Remember to pack all the important items for your trip in your hand luggage if your suitcase doesn't make it to the next aircraft, said French.

The prerequisite or not waiting until the last minute often said savings, experts said.

The lowest prices were 39 days before departure for a domestic flight and 49 days for international flights. The goal can vary depending on the goal, experts said.
