“Of course I'm disappointed, but I'm still proud to be part of this phenomenal production.”
The dream of Kandi Burruss to get closer to Egot status was delayed after her Broadway treasurer, Othello, did not receive Tony nominations.
The singer-songwriter went on Instagram after the nominations of Tony 2025 were announced to express their disappointment with the revival of the Shakespeare, which was overlooked.
But she also took time to celebrate the hard work and the talent of the line -up.
“Well, all of you … Othello didn't get the Tony nomination,” she took a few photos with Washington and co -producer Brian Moreland. “Of course I'm disappointed, but I'm still proud to be part of this phenomenal production. Every time I observe our line -up, I am blown away and inspired.”
“Denzel Washington @jakegyllenhaal – they both deliver a master class in actors every night. Really unforgettable achievements,” Burruss continued. “Congratulations to all candidates this year!”
The revival Washington as Othello and Jake Gyllenhaal plays as an IAGO, directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon. The A-List stars helped the show to draw massive crowds and $ 2.8 million in a single preview week. Despite its sold-out shows and the blockbuster success, production from the Tony nominations was excluded, including the best revival of a piece.
Burruss is already behind the Tony disappointment and is looking for what comes next for her booked and busy career.
“As for me, I already focus on what comes next. I don't give up the dream,” she wrote before adding a shameless plug. “'Tell me no;” By Whitney Houston (really 😉✍🏾) is repeated at the moment … and it is different today. “
While he was promoting Othello at the beginning of this year, Burruss spoke about her aspiration to achieve an eGot status. With several Grammy victories and Emmy and Tony nominations under her belt, the Xscape singer still has a long way to reach the coveted milestone.
Nevertheless, she caught her message on an optimistic note.
“For everyone who traces a dream – lets a 'no' stop your yes. The journey continues. …”, she wrote.
