Mississauga YMCA Relocating to Square One by 2027

Greater Toronto's YMCA has announced that it will move its location in Mississauga to the Square One-shopping center, whereby a new facility is to be opened in early 2027. Supported by a contribution of $ 15 million from the city, the move by Mississauga Mississauga, the joint organization developed by Oxford Properties is embedded. The new location replaces the current location of the YMCA in the Burnhamthorpe Road 325 and ensures a long -term presence in the growing city center of the city.

This new YMCA will take a large room in which Empire Theater was once housed, a cinema complex that was closed in 2014 after operating briefly under Landmark Cinemas. The unit near Holt Renfrew has been free for more than a decade and is now reinterpreted as a modern facility for health and community institutions, part of a growing change to adaptive reuse of unused shopping centers.

The new center will drive the full program of the YMCA in Mississauga, including fitness courses, licensed childcare and day camp. Until the new location is ready in early 2027, the members keep access to all programs at the Burnhamthorpe Road location.

In addition to the core programming, the YMCA operates an extensive network of services in Mississauga from Greater Toronto. These services extend to local job centers, dozens of licensed childcare programs, several day -to -day camps, school learning and activities for youth developments. As a non -profit organization, the YMCA offers financial support to ensure that residents of all ages and income levels can access its offers.

Maclennan Jaunkaln's Miller Architects monitors the architectural design, with bird construction serving as the main contractor. Blackwell ensures structural technology, while Introba deals with mechanical and electrical systems. Other parties are synergy partners and coat developments. While the first phase will take place completely within the footprint of the former cinemas, a second phase will follow soon after a new four -lane pool in new room next to the former cinema complex.

The resettlement fits into the broader renovation of the Square One District in Oxford Properties, which transforms the city center of Mississauga into a stroke for housing, trade and bourgeois life. The Square One District comprises 18 million square meters and is said to accommodate more than 35,000 inhabitants in 18,000 houses with new parks, office buildings and soon direct access to the Hurontario-Main line, which are currently in construction.

Oxford sees the YMCA in this transformation as a critical component. “The greeting of the YMCA in Square One District is a proud milestone that symbolizes the continued development of the area into a future -oriented neighborhood,” said Sherif Masood, head of asset management and development, Canada, at Oxford Properties. The early phases of the housing construction are already underway, and new rental buildings begin to welcome the residents.

The city of Mississauga has committed 15 million US dollars to support the move. The deputy mayor and the city council of Station 4, John Kovac, who represents the area, emphasized how important it is to maintain accessible rooms that promote the connection over generations. “The YMCA has been a trustworthy partner in the support of the health and well -being of our residents for many years,” said Kovac. “I am proud to have worked closely with the city's employees to have worked together Mississauga YMCA and Oxford Properties in order to make this reality.”

The arrival of YMCA on Square One shows a larger pattern in Canadian retail, in which resting commercial locations are converted into rooms that meet wider needs of the community. Once in the most important cinemas and department stores such as Square One are located and develop into mixed environments that include health, education and social services in addition to traditional retail.

Urbantoronto will continue to pursue progress in this development. In the meantime, however, you can find out more about this from our database file linked below. If you want, you can join the conversation in the associated project forum thread or leave a comment in the room provided on this page.
