Several people injured in high-speed TTC crash overnight

At least eight were injured and one person is facing charges after a high-speed overnight crash involving a TTC bus early Thursday morning in North York.

The driver of a TTC bus and several passengers suffered injuries in the collision near Yonge and Finch, where a pickup truck was reported to have crashed into the transit vehicle at high speed around 4:20 a.m

Police allege that the pickup truck driver, who was also injured in the accident, fled the scene but was later arrested.

Six people were taken to the hospital, three were treated at a trauma center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and three others suffered minor injuries.

TTC Interim Executive Director Greg Percy issued a statement about the accident, acknowledging that “just after 4 a.m. this morning, one of our buses was involved in a serious collision in the Yonge and Finch area.”

“The operator was taken to hospital along with a number of customers who were on the bus. I share everyone's concern for the well-being of our colleagues and our customers. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time.”

Percy assured riders and employees that safety “is the most important thing to me,” adding that “today's incident is a sad reminder of the challenges the TTC faces on the roads every day.”

“We will provide support to the operator and any employee who needs it as a result of this incident,” Percy said, adding that the TTC will continue to assist Toronto Police Services in their investigation.
