US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that it was “extremely difficult” to make a deal with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping at a time when the White House suggested that the two guides could speak in the middle of increasing trade voltages this week.
Scott Bessent, US Finance Minister, said on Thursday that the trade talks were “a bit stalling” and that the leaders of the two countries are likely to weigh. On Monday, a high -ranking officer of the White House CNBC said that Trump and XI would probably speak this week.
It remained unclear whether such a call had been arranged.

Washington and Beijing have blamed each other to have violated a trade agreement that was hit in Switzerland on May 12th. This deal included a 90-day suspension of most tariffs and a wide range of trading accounts by China against the USA that has been imposed since the beginning of April.
In contrast to the expectations in Washington, China has made no significant restrictions on exports in rare earths. Beijing has also criticized the United States for making the efforts to restrict the access of China to advanced technologies. Last week, the Trump administration also announced that they cancel Visa for Chinese students.
The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during his first meeting with the new US ambassador to China David Perdue on Tuesday that the latest series of “negative measures” of the Trump government was based on “unfounded reasons” and undermined China's legitimate rights and interests.
In the advertisement, the Chinese authorities quoted Perdue with the words that Trump had “great respect” for XI, while he asked the United States to meet “China halfway” and bring the bilateral relationships together to return to the “right path”.
“This is apparently trying to give Beijing the impression that the Trump [administration] wants to talk. Beijing publicly points out that the phone call is getting closer, “said Neo Wang, leader in China Economist and Stratege at Evercore Isi.
He said that the meeting between Perdue and the Top Chinese diplomat is planned for the structure of trust that Beijing needs, “so that XI is not embarrassing with words or actions by Trump after calling.”
Trump and XI last spoke in January, shortly before the US President was sworn in for his second term. While Trump has said in the past few weeks he wants to speak to XI, analysts expect China to only agree if it is certain that there are no surprises in the USA during the call.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the US ambassador said that he emphasized the US priorities for trade, fentanyl and illegal immigration and the importance of maintaining bilateral communication between the two countries.
