Many stocks in the sector now sell less than one dollar per share, which means that only a few cents can lead to a large percentage change. Despite the rally on Monday, many of these shares are far below their highs.
The recent growth followed a report in the Wall Street Journal late Friday, in which people were familiar with the thinking of the White House, that Trump followed whether marijuana should be brought into a less Dangeric drug classification. Trump announced his matter in his New Jersey Golf Club in the early this month during a fundraising campaign, people said.
According to the federal law, cannabis is currently classified as a medication for Schedule I in a group that also includes heroin and cocaine. Previously, Reclassification discussions to move the medicine in schedule III concentrated a class that includes steroids and Tylenol with codeine.
The new classification would enable marijuana companies to fall into different tax regulations and to promote investment interest.
A change from Appendix 1 to Appendix 3 would be “a gamuchanger” for the market for around 80 billion US dollars, said Tim Seymour, who invests on Monday in the “Worldwide Exchange” by CNBC Chief at Seymour Asset Management. He noticed that such a change apparently has cross -party support.
“It doesn't mean that it will not be a complicated trade,” said Seymour. “But it means that you are now investing far through a lot of institutional capital if you actually invest in this sector.”
Of course, Trump's support can illuminate the outlook, but he cannot re -classify the drug. The law on controlled substances continues the authority under the Attorney General, who historically delegated it, the administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
