The American basketball player Jarred Shaw is currently facing the death penalty in Indonesia after he has been arrested because he received imported cannabis rubbers that are illegal in the country.
Shaw, who played for Prawira Bandung in Indonesian Basketball League (IBL), told Guardian that the rubbers should treat the disease of his Crohn disease.
After packing the package from the lobby of his apartment complex on May 7, the Indonesian police confiscated 132 cannabis sweetness. “I use cannabis as medicine,” said Shaw, 35, to the Guardian in a telephone interview from prison. “There is no medicine except cannabis that prevents my stomach from pain.”
Now he is the opportunity to spend his life in prison or the death penalty.
“I've never gone through this,” said Shaw, who was also prohibited for life for life.
“I don't use it to have fun and go party,” he added. “With my stomach state, it is sometimes difficult for me to hold down food or go to the toilet. It only relieves the pain a little.”
A gofundme was founded by Shaw's friend Bree Petruzio to collect money to help with his legal costs.
