The Taiwanese-American jewelry designer says the piece is being auctioned because “as an artist of color, I care about how my work is remembered.”
Jewelry designer ONCH, who made Nicki Minaj’s famous pink fried chicken wing necklace, is auctioning off the piece to benefit the American Civil Liberties Association in protest of her former client’s new MAGA stance, Page Six reports.
The Taiwanese-American immigrant says the piece is being auctioned because “as an artist of color, it’s important to me how my work is remembered.” The memorable one-piece chicken necklace first appeared on the “Pink Friday” rapper’s neck at the 2011 iHeart Music Festival and caught the attention of several publications, including Billboard and Bon Appétit. Minaj’s opponent, fellow rapper Remy Ma, even referenced it in a dissident track.
“Are you stupid? You wore a pink diamond chicken wing necklace (Are you stupid?),” the Bronx-born artist said in reference to the eye-catching piece.
Now ONCH is making the piece public for the first time by listing it on the auction block of Palmstreet’s shopping app on February 24th. The minimum bid starts at $30,000. Since some of ONCH’s other famous clients include Rihanna, Kate Moss and Ariana Grande, the designer said the auction was a way to “recall this moment and allow design to have new meaning beyond the current spectacle.”
The Trinidad-born Young Money artist has taken her place in the MAGA world after publicly claiming she was President Donald Trump’s “number one fan” in an interview with grieving widow and new Turning Point USA CEO Erica Kirk.
Several others in the Hollywood spotlight have backed away from supporting the rapper, including her own fans, known as “Barbz.”
But Minaj is confident some of them will stay and call urged them to call on elected US senators to pass the SAVE Act.
But not everyone in MAGA or the conservative world consistently feels the pink leader’s support.

“I think it’s great that @NICKIMINAJ is Team Trump. But can we please calm down about this? Conservatives pretend not to care about celebrities, and for many that’s actually true,” the “Megyn Kelly Show” host said.
“Please remember that every now and then a celebrity deigns to give positive attention to the right.”

But maybe the rapper’s sudden change will work. According to Newsweek, some Barbz are ready to take the plunge into MAGA land alongside their fearless leader, who was an outspoken critic of Trump during his reign from 2016 to 2020.
“Today is the day I switch to Republican,” one fan said.
