Few architects have been endowed with the power to transform places to the extent that Frank Gehry… or had. It’s difficult to know what tense to use to even describe it. Although the Toronto-born master passed away in December, his legacy not only lives on, but continues to grow. On King Street in downtown Toronto, the first of two Forma towers soars, this one at over 260m, and the second, if it ever soars, at over 300m, super-tall status and quite a prominent point in the skyline. Featuring the same undulating and folded façade as this first Forma tower, the second would create a landmark that will be unparalleled in the city for the next generation. Even if it doesn’t get built, the first tower’s bravura exterior is sure to become one of Toronto’s most recognizable symbols, as Gehry’s legacy literally grows in size here.
