Beijing-the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei announced new computer systems on Thursday to operate artificial intelligence with its internal ascend chips because it increases the pressure on the US rival Nvidia.

The company said it is planning to start it New “Atlas 950 Supercluster” as soon as next year.

The United States has tried to cut China from the most advanced semiconductors for the training of AI models. In order to cope with it, Chinese companies have rather faced a large number of less efficient, often local chips to achieve similar computer functions.

Under Huawei ai computing infrastructure, a super cluster is connected to several super pods, which in turn were built from several super nodes. Superods that form the base are based on ASCEND chips, whereby the system design is used to overcome technical restrictions that are imposed by US sanctions.

Huawei said his new Atlas 950 Supernode would support 8.192 Ascend chips and the Atlas 950 Supercluster would use more than 500,000 chips.

A more advanced Atlas 960 version that is planned for the start in 2027 would support 15,488 Ascend chips per knot. According to Huawei, the full super cluster would have more than 1 million Ascend chips.

It was not immediately clear how the systems were driven compared to those operated by Nvidia chips. In a press release, Huawei claimed that the new supernodes would be the most powerful in the world by calculating for several years.

“The announcement of Huawei on the breakthrough of the computer is well tailored to the self-confidence in China's own chip technologies,” said George Chen, partner and co-chair of the digital practice, the Asia group.

While he warned that Huawei could overdo his technical skills, Chen pointed out that the ambition of the Chinese company, a world -KI leader, “cannot be underestimated”.

The research company's semianalysis showed in April that Huawei's self-developed CloudMatrix system was able to achieve a better performance than Nvidia-only about a third of the performance of an NVIDIA processor. Huawei formed his advantage by having five times as many chips.

“The computing power has and will continue to be the key to AI,” said Eric XU, deputy chairman and rotating chairman of Huawei, in a statement translated by CNBC. He spoke at the opening of the company's annual Huawei Connect event in Shanghai. The event runs until Saturday.

Two years ago, Huawei announced his Atlas 900 Supercluster at the same event. The company is currently selling an “Atlas 900 AI cluster” with “thousands of” ascend chips.

Get pressure on Nvidia

Huawei's announcement is made as China promotes native alternatives Nvidia. At the beginning of this week, the two countries completed trade talks in Spain, which included a way to solve the long-awaited US operations of the Tikial Media app TIKTOK, which belonged in Beijing-based startup-by-tedance.

In another aggressive signal, China announced on Monday that it expanded an examination according to Nvidia on alleged monopolistic practices.

The pressure has only increased since the US chip maker. The stocks fell by more than 2%on Wednesday after the Financial Times, citing sources.

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, said reporters that he was “disappointed” to hear the news of the reported ban. He previously described Huawei as “impressive” competitor.
